DESCRIPTION: Tiffany & Co., New York, 5 tube hall clock, 8 day, time, strike and chime, three weight driven English movement, Elliott design, playing single tune [Westminster] on tubes signed by Walter Durfee with patent date 1887 in mahogany case on bun feet with two full bold columns flanking trunk, beveled glass door in trunk and three ornately carved sunbursts on top of hood, above trunk and on panel in base. The brass arched dial has a silvered chapter ring with applied brass numerals, surrounded by a finely engraved foliate mask, turned spandrels and dial center, moon phase, selection for chime or silent, and second's bit, c1905
CONDITION: the case is in excellent original condition with original finish and minor chip on top left molding of hood. The dial has 30% silver loss and some tarnishing on chapter ring and 35% paint loss on moon phase disc depicting Scottish castle and sailboat. The robust movement is dirty and needs to be cleaned. It is likely that Tiffany contracted with a NY case maker who acquired the movement and tubes from Durfee in Providence Dial is signed Tiffany & Co. on a silvered brass cartouche above the numeral 6.
